As an owner of a diesel vehicle, I can only accept the sharp price hike if the government abolishes the steep difference in road tax for such vehicles.

Every time I drive, I see petrol-powered cars spouting more fumes than my green diesel engine pickup truck. Yet, I have been paying a whopping RM1,700 for my road tax supposedly because my engine is not environmentally friendly.

I have been able to accept this as diesel prices have remained low. With this price jump, I can no longer justify using this vehicle. Neither would I imagine anyone willing to buy it now.

Unless the government acts on this matter, I am seriously considering a Gandhi-like response to this situation and in protest, will not renew my road tax the next time around.

Would other diesel-powered vehicle owners care to take this same route?
