There is so much debate over dogs and dog licences being put forth. It is extremely important that education be the primary way to solve the problem and not just by using force on dog owners.

It is sad to say that our society's lack of knowledge about animals and compassion for them is close to zero. It is sad to learn that even some people with a high education do not know how to show compassion to either animals or their fellow human beings.

I strongly feel that education about animals and responsible pet ownership is essential in school curricula. It is because of this lack of education that dog attacks occur. We have to understand animals and we have to understand our pets.

What we need is a good team of veterinarians and dog trainers to analyse the cause of a problem and have them take steps to educate the public. Tightening licencing procedures is not the only solution to this problem.

Let us take the recent case of a dog attack as a wake-up call. We should move towards having animal behaviour education in school as a solution to solving this problem. We are a developing country but our lack of education on understanding animal behaviour is going to put us to shame.
