I find this perplexing - that even a VVIP’s allegations, purportedly made with documentary evidence, can be summarily ignored or cast aside. What has this country come to, really?

When common politicians highlight scandals or malpractices, it has become our ‘modus operandi’ to protect and defend those being accused. Rarely do we look into the substance of the allegations. Instead, those making the allegations are sometimes subjected to harassment.

The same applies to ordinary citizens. Their voices are rarely heard and their complaints ever entertained, even though in theory they are supposed to be the ‘boss’ of this country.

How about allegations initiated by a member of the royal family - a VVIP who is also the Tunku Mahkota of Johor? Would the allegations be any different?

I would presume that if the allegations have come from a VVIP, they will be taken seriously by the person concerned. Surprisingly, this is not to be. So far, based on news reports, the allegations were dismissed either as “silly arguments” unworthy of that person’s response or the allegations are simply not true.

I think this is insufficient. I think the two agencies concerned, i.e. Mara Investment and UniKL, whose funds were allegedly stolen, must come up with their own statements with regard to the allegations.

Can we all see the gravity of this matter? Who then in this country could have made a difference if all allegations and accusations against people in power can be summarily dismissed without much ado?

In this case, the allegations were not over some trivial matters. If true, they involved diversion of funds from Mara and UniKL to another entity which has nothing to do with the objectives of these two agencies. Seriously, how can this be?

To me, this is not just the alleged abuse of power of this person alone. It calls into question the whole ‘governance process’ in Mara and UniKL. It is time the collaborators, the compromisers, the polishers, and the proverbial three monkeys be asked to account.

If the allegations are true, I am not going to blame this particular person alone although he may be the most culpable. I am going to blame those in Mara and UniKL in charge of finance, budget and audit. It is time to take action against the wimps.
