From Our Readers

Will sunrise look like morning in our children’s eyes
Blocked by a 280 hectares man-made island with a concrete jungle soaring high
Will our joy at the smooth-coated otters flirting in the shimmering waters be deprived
As Greed gobbles up the sea impacting marine life and fisherfolk struggling to survive

Did the public acquiesce to the plans and approvals to gobble up the sea
As God’s gift of natural resources is ‘The Commons’ for ALL to enjoy and see
Officials have no right to pawn the natural heritage they have been designated to oversee
Being mere custodians responsible to the exigencies of society and the future ‘generasi’.

Why was the DEIA approved without considering “other elements”, to quote a minister
Who called a “halt to reclamation” after deterioration to the environment had been administered
Will a “high-powered group” and “experts” with a new improved DEIA halt the might of the sea
When it lashes out with fury at Greed gobbling up its natural course for a fee

Why was a World Bank- blacklisted company awarded the RM1.078 billion contract
By a reputable ‘Lifestyle’ developer trumpeting ‘Green Awareness’ as its tag
Will the fisherfolk’s protests on Jan 14 repair their impaired livelihood from the sea
As they seek compensation, safety standards and a Tanjung Tokong jetty

Will the public cherish the beauty of their country to stand up and speak for ‘The Commons’
Or will they close their eyes and let Greed skin the country of its riches and the natural resources of ‘The Commons’
As when selfish interests lose its moral compass without regard to the environmental and social impacts of their actions on ‘The Commons’
The ‘Third Force’ of society must step forward and challenge the threat to ‘The Commons’.
