Litter thrown from police vehicle
Highwayman Jul 4, 05 1:25pm
On May 23, a Monday, while entering the south Ipoh toll plaza of the North-South Expressway, I noticed something that made me very sad. This happened at about 3.45pm.

A highway police four-wheel drive vehicle bearing the registration number numbered WML (or WLM) 2984 was being driven erratically into the emergency lane. Later, I noticed that the reason for this was that some sort of garbage needed to be thrown out from this vehicle onto the road shoulder.

I wanted to stop and pick up the garbage to hold as proof of these police misdemeanour but thought against it as it is against the law to stop at emergency lanes apart from emergencies.

I continued to observe this police vehicle and it continued to speed at speed in excess of 110km an hour, fast disappearing into the twilight. Other cars who were even faster then this police vehicles were not stopped for a summons or advice.

The final chapter in this scene was at some point in the highway, this police highway patrol vehicle stopped and the two policeman alighted to set up a speed trap along the road. Now that is irony for you.

Who do I write to complain? Perhaps the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police should have made Recommendation No.126 - no littering.
