Peter Chong’s reappearance raises more questions than answers

The ‘disappearance’ of Pastor Raymond Koh and three others has yet to be resolved. I believe that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is working hard trying to resolve the matter. Unfortunately the kidnapping of Pastor Koh has been so clinically carried out that there appears to be very little clues for the police to follow up on.

Two weeks ago, the country was shocked to read that another activist and former MBPJ councilor, Peter Chong, had apparently disappeared. He is an active PKR party member and a former aide to a PKR MP. This led a frenzy of discussion and speculation on the social media. The police worked hard to find him. I am glad that he has been found. It shows that the inspector-general of police (IGP) and PDRM were committed to finding the missing persons.

However his reappearance has raised more questions than answers. He claims that he went to Thailand to meet a source that had information on the disappearance of Pastor Koh. Why did he go without telling his family members or friends? If he had a lead on the pastors’ disappearance, why didn’t he inform the police? Now he says he was kidnapped in Thailand.

As a concerned Malaysian, I believe many people are trying to help in finding the good pastor. I did it by studying Google Maps and shared with the police any potential closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera locations and possible traffic routes of the vehicle involved in the disappearance. The IGP acknowledged that those areas has been covered. Anyone with information should contact the police. Peter Chong’s actions raise speculation on his intent.

Was he trying to throw a bad light on the government of the day and the police?

Chong owes the public an explanation. He must own up to his actions. Personally I do not believe that he went to Thailand to find a lead to the disappearance of Pastor Koh without telling anyone.

Malaysian politics is about perception. Is he trying to make the BN government look bad or make the police look incompetent? It is only fair that the police dig deep into this matter. It cannot be concluded just because he has returned. He has not been fair to many ordinary Malaysians. I urged the IGP and the PDRM to get to the bottom of this matter.
