Dispelling claims and myths about the Cameron Highlands seat

The on-going rush by both MIC and DAP to hit out at myPPP for the latter’s continued doing good in Cameron Highlands is both ridiculous and vexatious.

The MIC president had asserted that his party will contest for the Cameron Highlands seat in the coming GE 14.

He claimed that the seat “traditionally belonged to MIC”. If there is any element of truth in making such claims, then democracy is dead. And therefore why is MIC even counting on the ballot box for GE14?

If by tradition the seat is MIC’s, then just observe your ‘tradition’. The logical question that MIC failed to ask is, where in the world do you see political parties claiming that just because in past voting memories their party emerged victor, does it mean that the voters are obligated to keep that tradition?

On another note, DAP had thrown in its own bargaining chip for the Cameron Highlands seat.

While complaining about MIC and myPPP making counter-claims for the seat, DAP was also doing the same.

Their clarion cry was, “give a chance to the opposition” in the coming GE.

Let us get real. While DAP went on to label myPPP as being not a multiracial party, who does not know that DAP is an overwhelmingly Chinese party.

And while labelling myPPP to be boasting, DAP also failed to to realise that it did boast that it only lost “narrowly” by 400 votes to the MIC candidate in the last GE, who later was driven out by MIC and became an Independent MP for Cameron Highlands.

Well, MIC should ask DAP, what about MIC’s traditional quest to the Cameron Highlands, in any case.

And while questioning all that myPPP president M Kayveas is meticulously doing in Cameron Highlands, meeting various communities, listening to their needs and doing good along the way - as any caring political leader must perform, it appears that such deeds are a not a concern for both MIC and DAP.

Well DAP should ask itself, what has it done to the seeming pressing issues affecting people in Cameron Highlands ( as highlighted by DAP) since the last GE where it proudly boasted that DAP lost by only 400 votes.

And MIC too should ask itself, what have they been doing all these decades in the Cameron Highlands seat that you keep claiming traditionally belongs to you.

If myPPP is well-received by all communities in Cameron Highlands each time Kayveas visits them, organises programmes, takes time to demonstrate compassion towards the helpless, needy and sick, are all these crimes against a nation?

In the quest to develop our nation, do these politicians from MIC and DAP not realise that every need must be heard, addressed and explained no matter how trivial it may appear to the political die-hards.

Stop operating from your high pedestals of claims that the seat traditionally belong to you or that you only lost by a mere 400 votes.

If you can, walk the talk like how Kayveas does. Then let the people cast their ballots. That is democracy. That is leadership that wins by example.
