I am saddened and deeply disheartened to read that Anwar Ibrahim has settled out-of-court his civil suit against the government and former inspector-general of police Rahim Noor for the infamous assault on him in 1998.

Don't get me wrong. Anwar certainly had been wronged and someone should be made to pay for it but it should not be the government. Anwar should have sued Rahim Noor personally as I am sure no one in their right mind would have instructed Rahim to bash Anwar up.He had acted outside his jurisdiction and should be made to pay for it.

If the government now is to pay, it is actually you and I who are picking up the tab for that assault. Where does the government get their money if it is not from the taxpayers?

I am sick to death of reading and hearing of government officers committing illegal acts and the government picking up the tab. It is a sad day for accountability when government officers knowingly commit criminal acts knowing it is the government that will face the music, not them.

I want to see individual litigants go after the officers personally for only then will these jungle wallahs behave in accordance with the General Orders. Otherwise, they will continue to act and behave like 'gods' of their domain.
