Dr Mahathir Mohamad says if you love Proton you should protect Proton. For Dr M, it's understandable that he would want to support Proton at whatever cost since it's his baby.

But for ordinary people, it does not make sense to support a losing concern such as Proton; it only burdens the rakyat more.

During the Mahathir era, there was, of course, notable physical development. But it must be noted that during his tenure, the cost of living had risen so high outpacing the rate of the rakyat's income increment.

Cars are especially costly now because of his single-mindedness to protect Proton. How come a car that costs RM40,000 in foreign country can cost upt to almost RM80,000 here ?

A Mercedes-Benz that cost RM100,000 overseas could have its cost tripled or even quadrupled when it reaches Malaysia. It's all because of the layers of people getting an easy income from the import of cars through the AP deals .

The dealers want more profit and nobody quite understands what happens along the chain of these imported cars' delivery system.

Whatever brand of car you buy, you are subsidising Proton by paying a very heavy, and unreasonable import tax.
