I refer to the call by Ustazah that Umran Kadir 'reveal to us what fields of knowledge on Islam he has mastered and what training he has undergone', and to tell us whether he has studied and mastered Arabic.

Ustazah also contended that Umran 'has been making a lot of pronouncements on Islam'.

I have revisited the letters that were contributed by Umran and all I have found were views proffered by him on his understanding of Islam arrived at from his attempt to understand the Quran. I have not seen any 'pronouncements on Islam'.

I would urge readers to see the call by Ustazah for what it is - a feeble attempt to stifle any alternative views to mainstream dogma. Perhaps before Ustazah makes this call, he or she might wish to first identify for us any of the verses of the Quran which Umran has alluded to in support of his views that he or she thinks he has misrepresented or misquoted or has simply failed to understand.

If Ustazah is up to this challenge, I trust that he or she will back whatever response is proffered with intelligent proof

I would therefore urge Umran not to entertain Ustazah's call until the latter responds to this. Until then, please continue to let us share your views.
