I think Malaysia should be the first nation in the world in keeping with the spirit of Malaysia Boleh to convert its universities into schools. Let the undergraduates wear uniforms and be ready to be dealt with in accordance with school-like rules being the small children they are.
It seems as though our leaders who handle higher education have no idea what it means to be an undergraduate. We operate on the basis of fear. There are many universities worldwide but how many are in the news for violent conduct?
Give our young people the space they need and let them enjoy the freedom that comes with responsibility. If we do not allow them this freedom, how are our young people going to grow up?
The deputy prime minister and minister of education both studied overseas and enjoyed the freedom of their undergraduate years. Why deny this privilege to Malaysians? Our leaders should grow up and get wise instead of taking disciplinary action against university students who have the courage to express their views.
