Why is there still a need to support or rather spoon feed our first national car company after 21 years of its sheer monopoly of the domestic passenger car market?

The profits made from the monopoly should have been channeled back into R&D to produce high quality products at reasonable prices for the Malaysian market. But Proton still seems to be in the situation it was when it was first set up ie, producing overpriced low quality products.

Now with the dawn of Afta, the supporters of Proton are now using the "Save The Nation's Pride" slogan to get the necessary support and sympathy for the ailing company.

I wonder how long more Malaysians will be subjected to this kind of emotional blackmail.

The relevant parties should wake up and question whether Proton needs continued support and for how long more. Mind you, any support will be coming from the Malaysian car buying public if not all taxpayers indirectly.

By the way, what happened to Proton's profits made during the last 21 years? And why are there no complaints about the our second national car company, Perodua?
