I read with a heavy heart Malay-bashing in urban schools rampant by Mom. If this is true, it is most unfortunate that after so many years of independence, we are still treating other races in hurtful ways like this.
My first job after graduation was teaching in a government school in a rural area. During the few years there, I have never ever neglected any students, much less be racially biased. But sometimes racism will not leave you alone. I had Chinese students who quietly asked me why are the special counseling courses only opened to Malay students? Why some of the motivation sessions are only opened to Malay students?
Why are the other students from others raceswho are living in poverty not given equal attention? It certainly doesn't help that many Chinese and Indian students from middle to low income families couldn't get a scholarship even with 7As or above (though the straight A scorers did get one) while some of their Malay classmates could go to England to study medicine under government scholarship with just 6As. And they are not from poor families.
I hate the country's racially-biased political systems and policies, and the parties that thrive under it. Affirmative action should be done based on social economic status, not race. How can you justify that the rich Malays could get a 7% discount on semi-detached house while a poor Indian factory worker has to pay full amount for his cheap apartment?
How can you justify well-to-do Malay students getting scholarships to study dream courses, but the poorer non-Malays have to be content with loans or sometimes nothing? There are countless other exmples that could be mentioned here.
Lastly, I just want to say that Malaysia was and still is a paradise but if we don't take care of it, racial bias could tear it apart. And the fault is mostly not on the opposition.
