Just when are we as Malaysians going to develop respect towards one another? Just when are we going to view changes in this country as a matter of principle rather than on sentiment, emotion and race?

I am against brutality but it becomes displeasing when an opposition member of parliament champions the interest of one race only. Why not everyone? I find it disgusting when we speak about corruption but fail to live up to expectations over its eradication. Only yesterday I was told by a Muslim restaurant owner in Taman Tun Dr Ismail that he was fined for having tables and chairs on the sidewalk. He wanted to know why a Chinese shop just a few doors away did not face the same problem. His answer was that enforcement officers wanted money from him.

Just when are we going to grow up? We have countless Majlis Perbandaran with differing laws which are mostly outdated or abused. Nothing is clear cut from tables and chairs by the roadside (let alone on the sidewalk) to the keeping of animals. We have an association to speak out against the cruelty to animals, but how about regulating their numbers in a residence?

Corruption and mismanagement have become a way of life with us. Instead of improving, the one who complains is looked upon as an enemy. If you speak about service, well, to be honest with you, if we were Singapore, half the government service staff would be sacked! If you send a letter over misconduct to a head of department and even a minister as I have done, you will not receive a reply nor will you find any action taken. So how can we progress and improve?

We have no vision for progress in terms of the quality of life. A house in Australia with land will cost less there than here. Here we have every inch of land turned into gold, leaving you with cramped quarters, so that the developers can make money. There are no laws governing the extension limit, thus causing palaces to exist on the foundations of what was once a terrace house unit. What kind of civilisation is this?

Your letters to the local newspaper will not be entertained because they have their own agendas, management and politics. When you add all this up, what we have is a changing skyline but with nothing but mismanagement and decadence.
