Ray's view on the letters and articles that have been appearing in malaysiakini lately on the late M Moorthy's case and the police treatment of women in custody merely shows how strong the divide is between the Malays and non-Malays in this country.

The letters in malaysiakini do not aim at stirring any group against any other group, but merely expose injustices that seem to have become an accepted norm in this society by those in authority. I don't think it is fair for Ray to say that the non-Malay writers have been trying to show that they know much about Islam and have been trying to teach the Malays and Muslims.

That police treatment of women has nothing to do with any religion in particular or any race for that matter, has been conveniently forgotten. In Moorthy's case, no one is talking about the teachings of Islam but whether his conversion to Islam was in order especially when his own wife was unaware of it.

When the aggrieved party had no avenue to seek a remedy, is it fair? Most of the letters were trying to suggest ways of giving some form of justice to such aggrieved parties, at least in the future.

Those in the majority should take into consideration the interests of the minority for a harmonious atmosphere to prevail. I believe the majority of the Malay/Muslims in this country is also embarrassed by the current situation and wish to put in place some remedies for the aggrieved minority. This would work towards a truly harmonious multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural Malaysian community.
