I was quite concerned to read that after making so much noise on how unhappy they were about the pitfalls facing women with the new (now postponed) amendments to the Islamic Family Law bill, the women senators still betrayed their conscience and voted for it.

What a bizarre way to enact a law. Surely it should have been withdrawn and resubmitted. But then what do I know, I am not a Yang Berhormat, an elected member of Parliament or appointed senator am I?

This is why sometime I think women are sometimes their own worst enemy. The fact that a woman has to serve a man 24 hours is something that women themselves have brought upon themselves. Many Malaysian females, especially the older generation, are told by their mums that this should be the case.

If in their sunset years they are stuck at home, that is because during their younger days they never developed a life outside the home at all. If women could put their foot down and stand their ground, the other Neanderthal half would have learned to be a little bit more sensitive.

The younger generation does not believe in any half being attended to 24-7 anymore. We share all chores and tribulations alike. People have friends and colleagues outside their spouse's circle. These add to a better enrichment of life and maybe these friends and hobbies will keep them occupied through their sunset years.

Don't always blame others for your own inability to stand your ground as you wanted an easy life without any quarrel or difficulties. I know of many modern women and men who have a perfectly good relationship/marriage while having their own space and time to do their own thing.

Times are changing and if you don't change with it, it is your own fault. Don't write in and moan about it in 20 years time or otherwise.
