The Barisan Nasional government has announced a hike on petrol, diesel and gas prices, which was an early morning 'surprise' to the rakyat, who have always voted them into power for the past half century.
The rational behind this surprising hike is still a mystery but being a layman, I wonder whether our Barisan Nasional government, who has been governing our country for so long, is really broke aka bankrupt.
I can't think of any other reason for this sudden hike, especially when our country is also an oil producing one, our oil being of premium quality.
The government needs to realise that there is going to be chain reaction with prices hikes in every sector, making the rakyat feel the pinch.
It looks like Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his team have failed drastically and they need to 'recoup' by hiking the price of the most important commodity - fuel.
I am very sure that the rakyat can within the next couple of days expect further price hikes that will affect and burden them directly.
