The recent 30 sen increase in petrol prices seems to have already had a spiralling effect on the prices of other goods and services in the country. Malaysians have time and again beared with the unilateral action by our government.

However, this time, our government had stated clearly that the RM4.4 billion saved is to be put to good use by upgrading the public transport system. Now it is time to make the government accountable for every sen that is saved.

A monthly expenditure report should be made public (ie. published in all major newspapers). For example, information like what was purchased, where is it used, and so on must be made public.

If the RM4.4 billion amounts to yearly savings, then come Feb 28, 2007, our government should make public an annual expenditure report and the total of that should be RM4.4 billion. The bottom line is to make our government accountable for their actions.

I urge the opposition to demand for this in the next Dewan Rakyat assembly sitting.
