The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) is expected to hold its annual general meeting (AGM) in a couple of months time and a new line-up of leaders are expected to be elected to office at the national level.
Since making this announcement, there is already a group of disgruntled members whose branches have not been issued 'B' Forms which entitle them to hold their respective branch AGMs. These disgruntled members have mentioned that they want to form an 'MIC Baru'.
Being a Indian Malaysian myself, I feel ashamed that there is going to be yet again a division in the Indian community. Some years ago, MG Pandithan - a former MIC vice-president who was sacked by the president S Samy Vellu - formed the Indian Progressive Front (IPF) which he now leads.
The Indian community in Malaysia is now less than 10% of the population and I feel that if we are further divided, we will lose whatever benefits we should secure to ensure that our next generations are taken care of.
The Indian community fails to learn from the other communities in Malaysia which practice forgiveness and unselfishness for the betterment of their communities. Leaders come and go but the Indian community needs to progress.
I think the time has come for the MIC to initiate a unity talk with all the other Indian community leaders to reconcile their differences. The current leaders need to realise that they are not going to be around perpetually, but that the community is going to remain whatever circumstances.
Once we stand united, only then can we say 'Indian Malaysians Boleh!'with one voice and this, among others, will then stop the other communities from passing unpleasant remarks which degrade the Indians.
