It's time to consider a report card on the performance of the Malaysian government since the general elections of 2004. Consider this, since the GE of 2004 there has/have been:

  • substantial increase in petrol prices
  • further increases in toll
  • still no compliance with Afta for cars
  • no reduction in income taxes
  • substantial increase in the crime rate
  • still no resolution to the annual haze problem
  • no reduction in road accident rates
  • more bailouts, losses for GLCs
  • sluggish growth rate of 5-plus percent
  • a stagnant stock market (worst performing in Asia)
  • a continuing budget deficit and bloated budget
  • an oversized cabinet
  • no significant reduction in corruption
  • a critical problem of unemployed graduates and a general problem of unemployment
  • no significant improvement in transparency and human rights
  • continuing problems with dengue, hand, foot and mouth and other diseases
  • still no resolution to the "package of issues" with Singapore

All the problems mentioned above can be tackled by a determined and accountable government.

On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being excellent), how would readers rate the performance of the present government?
