Apparently, we are at the threshold of deciding who runs this country. I am talking about the implementation of Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC). The Police Royal Commission has suggested the necessity of this independent inquiry board.

We the citizens take it that any royal commission is one that is set up with the authority of Parliament. Recommendations are accepted and enforced. At present, we seem to have a problem with the police deciding to ignore the recommendations for their own good.

They seem to hold the government and the prime minister to ransom. We have heard a lot of rumours about how the top police brass have had meetings with the prime minister and backbenchers, warning them of the consequences if the IPCMC is implemented.

Here is where the people have to play their part. We, the rakyat, have to stand firm and decide who runs this country - the police or the prime minster and his cabinet? The police should follow the constitution and take orders from the government in power rather then dictating what they want done.

We would like to advise Umno Youth and BN backbenchers to remember that they were voted in by the people and their responsibility is to the rakyat. They are not to propagate suppression through the police force to stay in power. It's high time we have the courage to move forward with conviction for a better and fairer Malaysia without fear or favour.

The PM has to show the people that the power lies with Parliament. He must stand firm and show us who is in command. If not, we might as well allow the IGP to run this country. In that way we won't have to deny that Malaysia is a police state.
