It is a little funny indeed that non-Muslims, more so Christians, find it offensive when forced to put on the 'tudung'.

An old timer friend of mine from Kelantan was reminiscing to a few of us recently how odd it seemed to him when he first saw a Christian nun in her habit. Until then, he had never seen a woman with her head covered.

It, of course, made me wonder if that is how the tudung came into being, at least in the way the Malay women wear it. There is resemblance in the style of the habits worn by some nuns.

So maybe the new requirement of the IGP should really not go down too badly with Christian women in the police force, if any. After all, he has not said that you cannot wear your Christian Cross with the tudung, has he? And he cannot stop you from wearing your Cross either.
