The time has come for us Malaysians to get rid of this crazy target of 3% of the national equity for Indians and 30% for the bumiputeras. If the Malay/bumiputera population is almost 55%, why go for only 30%? Don't you think its too low and too small to strive for?
As for the Indians, what is this 3% share all about? Tell a salesperson, a sales group or a GLC company that your sales target for a year is 3% only and see how motivated they are going to be!
Lately, I have been hearing young professionals talking about this ridiculous target. They want the community to ignore the 3% stigma and work hard for more. People may say that even that 3 % is not reachable yet but do remember the 1.5% was achieved by our own effort.
May I suggest that the 3% target be seen from the perspective of the MIC's coffers.
So I would call all Indian Malaysians to forget about the national equity target. Keep working hard and think that the sky is the limit. Have a target of a 10% stake in the national pie.
To my fellow Malay brothers, do the same. Your target should not be just 30%. Keep working hard for a 50% stake. And how about our Chinese brothers? You're beyond national go global!
Does anybody want to challenge my idea?
