Acceptable behaviour is above legal sanction. When the law intervenes, then the behaviour and conduct of the persons involved becomes unacceptable. Only behaviour and conduct that is demoralising should come under this category and such conduct should be spelt out.
We cannot be so irresponsible that everything has to be determined by the law. Anyway, we are already a highly legalistic society and it is time that Malaysians of the 21 century assert their views regarding what can be done in the limited public space that they enjoy.
Let us also respect the diversity that is our strength.
The young couple charged with indecency did not have the bad intention of corrupting public morals. If this was the yardstick, then the powers-that-be from the judiciary to the politicians have only to look at some of the TV programmes over Astro to get the message.
You confuse people because you can never have different standards exhibited in the media and what is otherwise acceptable to all. However, most people will have a sense of conscience regarding behaviour that corrupts public morals.
So leave this in the public domain. We cannot replace the conscience of people with the law for otherwise we create people who live by fear and not by freedom.
