It seems very obvious to me that Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister, will do and say anything these days just to get heard by the media. His brand of windbag rhetoric (aka Mahathirspeak), is little more than sensationalistic statements buoyed up by bags of hot air, reeking of self-importance.

His recent 'willingness' to speak with malaysiakini , his harshest of homegrown critics, demonstrated without a doubt that he would stop short at nothing to seek publicity.

His latest clarion call to Muslims to 'build their own brand of weaponry' is a frightening validation of Huntington's theory of civilisations clashing.

If everyone were to take up arms in the name of his or her religion, will that not result in a bloody war of faiths?

His statement should be dismissed by all rational minds as absurd, irrelevant and contributing little to world peace.
