The key to the attainment of a fully developed nation as envisaged in Vision 2020 is by overcoming the nine strategic challenges. On top of the list is to: Establishing a united Malaysian nation make up of one Bangsa Malaysia.

However, I don't see Bangsa Malaysia will emerge in next 15 years if the other eights strategic challenges are not look into concurrently and seriously by government and politicians.

Take for example: Ensuring an economically just society, in which there is a fair and equitable distribution of the wealth of the nation. How can the Bangsa Malaysia born in an environment that where policies and projects formulated by the government but are not implemented to benefit the rakyat?

We can read in newspaper on many incidents about funds for the projects being diverted elsewhere, project completed but need more fund to repair before operational, extra-long delayed project with huge added cost, almost fully paid but abandoned project and many more such events. All these only benefit a bunch of peoples.

The majority of the rakyat don't even able to "taste" the goodness of the projects implemented. Worse still, the rakyat have to pay more in order to use the facilities! The poor (of all races) still remain poor whereas the rich become richer. No equality in wealth distribution creates suspicious and disunity among all races.

Another area of concern is: Establishing a mature, liberal and tolerant society. Is our society mature in thinking, liberal in our actions and tolerant to comment made by others race? The currents dispute between MCA, Gerakan and Umno Youth is a living example. Why sweep them under carpet? Can the issue be discussed like mature politicians for the betterment and unity of the nation?

It is disappointing that the nation had achieved 49 years of independent but the tactics of gaining popularity by some politicians still remains very much racial base. Can the politicians have quantum leap in their thinking? Can politicians or government accept criticism and response with facts and figures and effective actions rather than with emotion or setting committee looking into the problems? Can people express their dissatisfaction without fear?

If the politicians who presumably well-educated and more exposed to international scene and who shall be the nation future leader still unable to have paradigm shift in their thinking and actions then how do you expect the rakyat to be Bangsa Malaysia? No freedom of thinking and equality in speech create a timid society.

Then Bangsa Malaysia is only a dream.
