There has been much police bashing recently, so I thought my two cents worth observation can help instead of just complaining.

Walk into any police station and you see the man or woman in blue answering telephones and hammering away at the computer, typing and printing reports catering for the public.

While they are doing a necessary service, (and some poor souls do it all the way into the wee hours of the night), one cannot help but wonder if they would be better off patrolling our crime- infested streets. It is known that some smaller police stations handle up to a 1,000 reports a month!

Routine reports should be handled by administrative personnel not those trained to fight crime. Also a reclassification of what needs to be done for a report and what can be done away with will certainly help to save time and manpower.

An example is a traffic accident report which needs to be handled by at least two personnel. A simple form where the driver can tick off the relevant items one by one will certainly save a lot of time instead of writing a long story. Certified reports should be done away with as computers now log the serial number of each report.

I am sure the list of time-saving measures is long and if implemented will surely lead to a reduction of wasted manpower that can be better deployed to fight crime effectively.
