I truly hope that the letter by FN entitled Chinese M'sians must accept their lot is a joke and is written for the sole purpose of provoking some lively response from readers, because if the writer really believes in what he has written in that letter, we Malaysians are into some serious trouble, as, amongst us reside an individual so bigoted that he sees nothing wrong in restricting other citizens' basic rights to livelihood or to treat his fellow citizens as his subordinate.

He also declares that he is against the concept of transparency and thinks that once a minister has endorsed a project, no one should question how the project was awarded and how the funds were used. It looks like FN wishes to propel us back to the Stone Age where the strong leader bullies his way through weaker people where he rules supreme and is above the law.

Demonstrating the ultimate bully mentality, FN calls upon the government to 'further restrict the economic interests of the Chinese'. He is also of the opinion that it is wrong for the Chinese to want more in life as they are able to own big houses and multiple cars. He writes as if all Chinese in this country are wealthy. What FN must realise is this - there are many poor Chinese in the country as there are poor Malays, poor Indians, poor Portuguese, poor Ibans and poor Dusuns.

Fine, if he argues that there are far less poor Chinese than poor Malays, let the New Economic Policy be designed to help all poor people in Malaysia regardless of race. This way, the Malays will still be the major beneficiary of the NEP, if indeed FN is right about Malays being the poorest people in this country.

As for the rich Chinese, or rich Malays, Indians, Melanaus, Bidayuhs and Thais for that matter, what is wrong with wanting to gain more wealth so long as they do it legally and ethically? The last time I checked, we were a free country.

I wonder what would be FN's response if the British government suddenly puts an economic restriction on the Malay community in Britain to allow the English sons of the soil to 'gain back something that has long belonged to them' (to borrow FN's words) or to frown upon the Malays in Britain from gaining more wealth through honest to God means even if they are already filthy rich?

FN declares that 'Chinese are only immigrants'. I wonder if he knows there are many bumiputeras in Malaysia who are immigrants too. Some are only first generation Malaysians but are already entitled to all the benefits as 'sons of the soil' and more.

On the other hand, I know of many Chinese Malaysians who are 15th, 11th, and ninth-generation Malaysians. Who is to say who is more qualified to be the 'son of the soil'? Many other countries have immigrants amongst their citizenry but none has legally placed restrictions on the immigrants to give more benefit to their 'sons of the soil' unless you are taking Nazi Germany into consideration.

FN also had a few things to say about how a public servant such as a minister should behave. According to FN, a minister should mind his own business and not care about the happenings in other ministries. I gather from FN's reasoning that the minister should keep mum even if he detects wrongdoings in other ministries. FN also thinks that the deputy minister for higher education's call for more transparency has brought about great damage to the current system.

If the current system is incompatible with transparency, the system is bad for the people. FN is encouraging corruption and all sorts of misdeeds in the government. This is unbelievable and I am totally impressed by the level of FN's shamelessness in endorsing immoral behaviour.

Finally, FN's bizarre conclusion that 'the Chinese just have to accept the fact that living in Malaysia means they have to be subordinate to the 'sons of the soil'' just goes to show how twisted his logic is and how low his regard is for humanity. As for me, Islam teaches me that racism ( assabiyah ) and corruption are forbidden.
