I would like to thank FN for his letter entitled Chinese M'sians must accept their lot . And I wish more Malaysians would read it with an open mind instead of jumping for his throat from the word 'go'. Let's face it, FN was being truthful and forthright. Right or wrong, his views are shared by many Malaysians specifically the Malays. So FN, thank you for speaking your mind and sharing with us the typical mindset of some of the Malay public.

Before I continue, please understand that it would be hard for me to be politically correct and accord everyone a sense of fairness and justice. It would seem that I tar the general Malay public with the same brush but I ask that you set that aside as I acknowledge the existence of progressive Malays who do not share the same views as FN.

Having said that, FN's commentary is truly refreshing in that most letter writers (including myself) here write in to complain, rant and whine. He has valid points in that the Chinese being marginalised is not a new phenomenon. In fact, it started after independence and was soon compounded by the introduction of the NEP. My fellow Chinese Malaysians blame not our forefathers and ancient politicians of the time.

The systematic erosion of our rights and confiscation of our dignity did not happen overnight. It took well over 30 years (and still counting). We could have arrested the decline at any point in time but we didn't. Over and over again, we voted in the 'dacing', eating up their empty promises and hoping for the best. But hope is for the hopeless. Do something about it.

Remember the election in 1999? The 'dacing' was on the verge of losing its foothold but it was the Chinese that came out in full force to continue voting for a racist government and thus sealing their fate as a dumb and marginalised lot. That was our best opportunity for a regime change and we squandered it for all the various excuses.

It will not do us much good to put any faith in our self-serving, Umno apologists, so-called champion of the Chinese rights politicians who are only looking out for themselves.

As much as I enjoyed FN's commentary for its frankness, I also found it truly delightful as it also showcased his sense of entitlement. That is the sad case of a section of the general bumi public. They know the non-bumis are marginalised but they choose to close one eye. If you remain silent, you are agree with his sense of entitlement and the common goal of marginalising the Chinese.
