  • Recent developments in our country are very worrying. There have been more than a dozen incidents in the past two years which had the potential to create communal riots in this country. The latest one being the church incident in Ipoh, Perak.

Unfortunately, the ones who are responsible for all this dangerous sentiments are none other than our ruling Umno. Statements made by various Umno leaders on inter-religious issues have only added fuel to these negative sentiments. Sadly, such statements have even been made by our deputy prime minister. His remark about the proposed inter-faith commission has shown us what kind of leader he is.

Umno has clearly shown that it is not for power-sharing with the other communities in Malaysia, be they Chinese, Indians or the natives of Sabah and Sarawak. A fine example would be the rejection of the interfaith commission. It was discussed at the Umno supreme council level and was rejected. This rejection was final despite the support for it by all the other Barisan Nasional component parties.

Just imagine, all the parties that represent the various races in the country cannot get a proposal through just because Umno alone rejects it!

Even the so-called ban on the inter-religious discussions was directed at non-Muslims alone. Muslims continued to carry on with their discussions which carried inflammatory them. on-Muslims cannot even tell their fellow men about the protection provided by the Federal Constitution.

Is this the government we want? I say 50 years is enough for Umno. Kick them out as they have proved us that they are nothing but racial bigots who do anything to get their way.
