The riveting story about the political analyst who is allegedly implicated in the gruesome murder of a Mongolian woman who was blown to smithereens by explosives has hogged the news lately.

While we appreciate the good work done by the police in nabbing their own men who are suspects, one tends to less sanguine if those guilty of the gruesome murder will ever be convicted for their crime.

We have had several high-profile cases before where the accused was not found as in the case of the famous Noritta Shamsuddin murder case, the murder of the boy from China and the killing of a woman politician from Sabah. The real murderers apparently got away scot-free and justice for the victims is still not served until now.

The police should investigate how their elite Special Action Force officers (UTK) - who are supposed to be the best among the best - are allegedly involved in this case as claimed by press reports. This breach of duty, if proven true, cannot be condoned as this force are responsible for the security of our top politicians and other VVIPs..

A well-known political analyst, explosive devices, police personnel who are suppose to enforce the law rather than break it, a beautiful model from a far away land are all ingredients for making big news when the case comes to court. Even now tongues are wagging among the public due to the gruesome aspect of this case, the likes of which have never happened before.

As the world awaits the outcome of this case, let us hope that our enforcement officers - be it the police who handle the investigations or the Attorney-General's Chambers which is tasked with prosecuting the alleged murderer - will not slip up in their job allowing the real murderers of the exotic beauty from Mongolia to roam free.

As our prime minister has said, nobody is above the law and hopefully the guilty ones will pay for their crime regardless of their stations in life. This heinous crime has tarnished our image in the eyes of the world. Let justice take it course and may the guilty ones pay dearly.
