Is there another Tunku out there?

Fairplay, in the letter BN’s 2/3rds majority and the popular vote notes in his conclusion that: ‘Finally, I will hazard that in some future election, the BN will retain its two-thirds majority with 46% of the popular vote’.

If the day does come when 54% vote against BN, that would be a day to celebrate. That outcome will be a true win-win situation. BN would have won and retained power, and the majority of citizens would have won by openly and visibly rejecting BN in spite of all its election manipulations and deceits.

But I am afraid that even this win in a loss is wishing for a pie in the sky and will be denied to decent Malaysians. And it will not be because of BN. Just look at the opposition, the fanatical PAS, the weak but opportunistic Keadilan, the Chinese-based and equally opportunistic DAP, and a bunch of insignificant small parties.

What choice does the voters have?

I, for one, cannot see myself voting for PAS in my constituency to show my disapproval of BN. Hence, I don’t vote at all. I am sure there are lots of others like me who are in such a situation. And even if you have a choice of Keadilan or DAP, what difference would that make? At best, the same old insignificant impotent opposition.

What we urgently need now is a proper alternative Malaysian party. For it to be viable, the leadership has to be Malay, not the despicable Umno or PAS types, but someone who rises above race and religion and who seeks to put Malaysia first.

The party would be for all Malaysians regardless of race or religion but would need to have significant Malay membership. A clear vision and a well-defined manifesto based on human rights, democracy and true Malaysian values will be needed.

We need a truly Malaysian alternative to the race-based BN. It will be 2007 next year, 50 years since the truly great Malaysian statesman Tunku Abdul Rahman led us to independence from the British.

Is there another ‘Tunku’ out there who is prepared to lead us all to independence from the current colonisers who are also plundering this wonderful nation?
