The recent Umno general assembly has not only hurt interracial relationships though of more concern for the majority of Malaysians is the bleak prospect the future holds with leaders like these at the helm.
The worry is not so much for ourselves but more for our children who have to be brought up in such a divisive and discriminative environment with little prospect for meritocracy. There is not much talk of nation-building and after all the trials and tribulations that we have faced , there is still talk of bloodletting among ourselves. No wonder many want to emigrate.
Before we get carried away and book that flight though, recognise that what transpired at the Umno assembly was mostly rhetoric from empty barrels. All this talk at the end of the day is counterproductive and retrogressive.
These people shouldn't be allowed to determine our future. To many of us who have grown up and lived all things Malaysian. It is unthinkable that our racial fabric can be so easily torn again. It won't.
Recognise the whole Umno proceedings as another blatant power grab by the ruling elite but in their poor handling of the sensitivities involved, have exposed themselves for all to see. The 'emperor' is indeed naked and collectively we must do the honourable thing and tell 'him' so. Why vote with your feet when the 'pen' is mightier than the 'keris'?
