I refer to the malaysiakini report Abdullah defends legal action against bloggers .

The News Straits Times may sound like a big bully with its legal action against bloggers Jeff Ooi and Ahiruddin Attan but this is an inevitable process in the evolution of the cyberspace democracy where freedom and responsibility must be balanced

In civil society, there are liberals who use an open platform to voice their opinions, political beliefs, religions inclinations and ideals which they think are important to be made known to those who share the similar values.

Ooi and Ahirudin can write anything they like about the NST and its leadership but they must also be fully responsible for what they are writing. Everyone is free to express their sentiments, but such freedom must come with responsibilities.

Sometimes, overzealous bloggers tend to forget about the sentiments of another human being and allow many negative comments that provoke an unwanted reaction from other people. Among some bloggers, there is also competition for readership and some bloggers are willing to tarnish and destroy the life of others without verifying or confirming their writings.

Many bloggers are not professional journalists and they always tend to forget about responsible and accountable reporting. Bloggers should know that with freedom comes responsibility.
