I refer to the letter Dr M's proposed war crimes tribunal a farce . I was disturbed by writer's statement that the tribunal 'deter respectable and credible foreign investors from investing in this country'.
I find this argument to reek of human apathy. Especially at a time when Jewish holocaust historians have uncovered new documents pertaining to the fate of the family of holocaust victim Anne Frank.
The shocking revelations have shown that many countries actually turned a blind eye towards the atrocities committed during the holocaust. These countries refused to help Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution because of the policy that 'national interests must override all humanistic and humanitarian concerns'.
More than six million Jews perished in a systematic Nazi extermination campaign and the world just watched. Then again, exactly50 years later, the world watched as one million Rwandans were slaughtered in the second worse genocide of the 20th century.
Since many of the perpetrators of the genocide were armed with just machetes, it would have needed just a few dozen tanks to stop the genocide. Yet the world community was too selfish to do even this.
However, the same countries who abandoned the Rwandans and watched them die are only too happy to support the war for oil in Iraq because it benefits their economy at the expense of the dying Iraqis.
