While PKR projects it image as a multiracial party, its support will depend on the calibre its leaders are going to have now and in the future. S Nallakarruppan has every right to contest the post of vice-president.

However, in the eyes of the Indian Malaysian community, he is not the kind of leader who can provide a vision for the community in the existing multiracial set up. He has been too closely linked with MIC president S Samy Vellu before and now he wants to come back into politics due to his friendship with Anwar Ibrahim.

I think it is very important that he understands that having a friendship with Anwar is one thing and representing Indians is another. A man who has never spoken up on behalf of the Indian community should not parachute into politics simply because he has handful of Indian supporters or friends in high places.
