I am disappointed with the inspector-general of police's statement that public officials can own businesses, if given permission. We, the public, would like to see the letter giving the ACA chief such permission.
If no such letter is available, then the IGP should proceed with action. For far too long, the top brass seem to protect one another. No one simply goes to a police station and files a sexual assault report against a senior police officer. If there was no case, why didn't the police take action against the person who filed the report?
The police cannot have it both ways and get away with it. Many of us have experienced filing police reports. The issue is not that there are no grounds. It is simply not pursued. The lady who reported the sexual assault provided names and details of vehicle numbers and the hotels where they stayed. Come on, these matters can be checked up if the police were serious about the matter.
But in wanting to protect their own kind, nothing was done. The mentality of 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' rules. Please note that the allegations brought against ACA chief were by a former head of ACA Sabah chief. Give him some respect.
This only shows how difficult it is to fight corruption without an independent ACA. The police will protect their own people and we the public have all our faith with regards to police investigations.
We are dealing with a Malaysia that is educated and well-informed. Do not treat us as stupid, as if the leadership of the ACA and the police do not think much about public opinion. The government should be censured for this case.
