I refer to the letter Let NGOs handle maid industry . Yes. Maybe it's about time the NGOs step in.

Imagine how much a foreign worker (be they housemaids or general workers) can save if they do not have to pay all sorts of fees (whether for documentation or corruption) to any agent. NGOs can handle the various job functions presently handled by the government authorities and the private employment agents.

There is rampant corruption in the foreign labour industry. Millions of ringgit change hands even before the workers enter the country. Each foreign workers pays thousands of ringgit before they can be employed here.

Maybe the NGOs are a better way to handle this massive industry. There would be no more problems like unpaid wages, abuse, torture and so on.

But frankly, can the NGOs undertake this task and at the same time do away with corruption?

If the NGOs can succeed without any element of corruption, then they can do a whole lot good for the rest of the country especially the poor. The government should fully support such a move if they want to achieve the 'zero corruption' target.
