As a Hindu parent, I am very angry that a Hindu woman, R Subshini, should be told to seek redress for the injustice her husband has done to her and her children in the Syariah Court.

I am not questioning whether the Islamic court will be fair or not. I am questioning the judgment of the two judges who rejected her appeal. They have judged wrongly and I strongly feel that they need to be removed from their seats for flaunting the law. The Federal Constitution is the supreme law of the land and non-Muslims can be only governed by the civil courts and not the syariah courts, which is exclusively for the Muslims.

Can you imagine the mental anguish of the mother and her two young children who are at the mercy of the syariah courts?

If her husband manages to convert their second child to Islam and seek custody of both the children, he would then insist that the mother is not fit to bring up the children in a Hindu household. So Subshini will then be without her children.

As a mother, I cry for her because I cannot imagine a world without my children - children who were born of me, my flesh and blood.
