I have always voted for the opposition simply because I believe that we need to have an effective opposition as a check and balance. Right now we only the cheques (the paper type that we bank in, filling the pockets of the Barisan Nasional cronies) and not the balance.

Malaysians are a famous lot when it comes to elections. Vote they will, but only for Barisan, even till Doomsday. 'Buy-elections' is actually the true way to describe our elections. Barisan buys and the rakyat falls into the trap again and again and again.

It is painful to watch our fellow citizens selling their rights away, day by day, all for some 'nasi lemak', karaoke, some upgraded roads, a new bridge. Don't they realise they are paying more elsewhere?

Paying more for higher electricity and water tariffs. Paying more for petrol. Paying more for healthcare. And let's not forget the poor state of affairs in our schools. And what about the racial and religious tensions, the rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer, the total indifference to the economic needs of the people, the open and blatant display of power by the powers-that-be, declining FDI and the total disregard for transparency and accountability?

So why is Barisan so confident of winning elections? It is because who cares about the present state of affairs. Time and again, Malaysians have proved they can be bought for a cup of coffee. That is how low they have sunk to.

There should be more people like me. The opposition will win hands down, and if they did not prove their worth, we will choose another party. That's me.
