The recent by-election in Machap and the coming by-election in Ijok means one thing - the government will be pouring in millions of ringgit worth of development funds to ensure a victory for its candidate.
Even the Malaysians for Free and Fair Elections (Mafrel) chairman is on record in saying that morally it is wrong but technically, it is not.
Development funds which had previously been hard to get is almost instantaneously made available. No wonder there is now a silent wish by many people that a by-election will be held in their constituency if they really want to see any form of development.
I am apolitical and am also wiser to the veiled threats by politicians in the BN that only they can bring in more development if elected as the MP or state assemblyperson.
The reason is simple as only MPs and state assemblymen from the BN are entitled to development funds for their respective constituencies whereas opposition representatives gets zero funding. Absurd you may say, but it is true in this country despite the fact that development funds are actually taxpayers money.
However, on the plus side, the people are now more aware of their rights. They pay taxes and expect a better delivery system from the government in return.
Lastly, please bear in mind that bringing development to the people irrespective of which way they had voted is a responsibility of the government - not a reward.
