I refer to the letter Stop labelling me... by lmnitm, and I must say that s/he is right in being frustrated over some of the uncalled for discriminatory remarks in some of the letters. It is wrong to label a whole section of society over the actions of a few irresponsible parties.
But isn't it also wrong to continue suppressing another section of society for the sake of a failed agenda? We had 50 years of independence, and about the same for affirmative action policies. In this time, immense wealth has come to Malaysia as evidenced by its economic standing in the Southeast Asian region.
If a large section of bumiputeras are still not financially well-off, living in sub-standard conditions with sub-standard facilities, how can this be the fault of the minorities? Is it not instead a reflection of how those in power - with their affirmative action policies - have failed the bumiputeras? Where has the wealth gone? Definitely not to the minorities, though that was supposed to be function of the affirmative action policies.
The rise in the amount of complaints from the minorities reflects the growing frustration at the continuance of such an outdated policy that does not bring any clear benefit to them nor to the majority of bumiputeras. I am personally surprised that there aren't a larger amount of complaints from the bumiputeras asking where has all the wealth gone?
Why are the bumiputeras allowing certain individuals to perpetuate something borne out of an inferiority complex that clearly should not exist anymore? The bumiputeras are the majority and never will the minorities wield any political power. Why do they think that they still need the discriminatory affirmative action policies? Is it because the bumiputeras feel inferior?
