I refer to the letter written by Dr Sheela Moorthy, Apology demanded from racist minister . I am not entirely surprised that we have such dimwits as cabinet ministers. A few years ago, I was seated together with a former cabinet minister who had just returned from a trip to one of the African countries.

Apparently he was in the delegation of our former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He informed some of us at the table that they were given a welcome dance by barebreasted women but he did not 'feel a thing' because 'the women's breasts were so black one could not make out where their nipples were'.

This man was a academic who was appointed as a cabinet minister with an important portfolio. I was simply too shocked to respond to such a distasteful remark. Another minister who continues as a member of the current cabinet, and who was seated on my right, simply smiled politely at his colleague but clearly disapproved of that disgusting humour.

I was tempted to walk over to the next table where Pak Lah (who was then in his last days as deputy prime minister) was seated to advise him not to reappoint this so-called academician to his cabinet, but sadly I could not pick up enough courage to do so. I was glad to learn that a few months later, this clown was dropped as minister.

Assuming what Science, Technology and Innovation Jamaludin Jarjis was supposed to have said is true, then he, too, must suffer the same fate, otherwise there is no meaning in all this 'cemerlang, terbilang' or whatever that is being shouted about.

Dear JJ, in case you are reading this letter, may I educate you a little on the history of this country. The so-called 'dark skinned, low-class Indians' were the backbone of the civil service of this country.

Eminent doctors, lawyers and teachers were and continue to be 'dark-skinned Indians'. I am fairly sure some of your own teachers must have been Indians. If you have forgotten about this, please go and ask your boss, Pak Lah. I am sure he will tell you that his own English teacher was a 'dark -skinned Indian'.
