  • I refer to the letter May 13: Four decades of secrecy exposed.

    Congratulations to Dr Kua Kia Soong for his version of May 13 incident. Three observations though.

    1. Kua is a opposition activist, so the element of bias will be there in his book.

    2. His sources are mostly foreign. So again, the element of foreign and colonial bias will be there in the despatches he quotes and;

    3. What the Malay crowd in Kg Baru did was a spontaneous reaction to the very racial harping and campaigns by the DAP and Gerakan led by Lim Kit Siang and Goh Hock Guan which culminated in their abusive and degrading election 'victory' celebrations.

    The ascension of the late Tun Razak to Umno and later to Barisan Nasional's leadership is the consequence of the dissatisfaction of Umno members in particular and the Malays in general with the Tunku's leadership which, to them, had not been able to deliver the fruits of Merdeka.

    What happened on May 13, 1969 was just a catalyst to this changing of the guards. As simple as that.

    • Dont deny public access to May 13 book
    • Two nations in one country after May 13
    • Work against injustice, not each other
    • May 13: Four decades of secrecy exposed
    • Dont demonise May 13 book
    • May 13: Sacrifice of the innocents
    • Truth of May 13 long overdue
