I refer to the letter Foreign capital doesn't have to put up with NEP . In it, the writer mentioned something along the lines of how one's mindset can be so ingrained that one loses rationality in arguing on the merits of the NEP other than to say it is a 'birth right'. I totally agree with him.
But before suggesting how this mindset can be changed, I would like to comment on one of the writer's remarks which compared the likes of European Union farm subsidies to the NEP. I think the NEP is much more complicated and discriminatory than just farm subsidies.
The NEP by design favours one particular race group, in this case the majority Malays, over other races in the country. The policy and its implementation is structurally and methodically mapped and implemented from top down.
Even the GLCs are roped in into this grand scheme of things. Trust me, they even have monthly meetings chaired by the very top in the country to check on their progress. It's more than extreme not unlike Mugabe's confiscation of white-owned farm lands in Zimbabwe.
This NEP is run like a war zone with lots of people running around in an operation rooms with huge maps hanging. plotting strategies. Whereas the non-Malays are still moving along without any long-term plans, passing one day at a time.
Coming to this change of mindset, it's not easy. Mindsets can only be changed if one faces the fear directly and truthfully. To deal with the NEP, issues have to be faced. But even our politicians have no stomach for it.
