  • I welcome the move by the government to clamp down on the rogue bloggers who abuse Internet freedom by writing defamatory, slanderous and seditious material.

The government should be applauded for being firm and for insisting that matters on religion, race and royalty are not to be subject to the normal debate and ridicule as national unity is at stake.

We writers who uses pseudonyms are often criticised for hiding behind anonymity but it must be pointed out that our identity is known to the editors and the content of our letters are vetted. But bloggers write whatever they think.

In fact, it is not only national leaders and VIPs who are targeted unfairly by bloggers. Normal ordinary citizens are also now turning to blogging to write nasty, petty, slanderous material on others, knowing very well that legal action and is slow and expensive.

It is time the government formulate new laws to take care of this menace and I will be the first person to file a complaint under this law as I am sick of seeing those abusing Internet freedom and spoiling it for the rest of us.
