Congratulations Pak Lah for directing your cabinet ministers and deputy ministers to resign from holding positions in sports organisations. This directive should have been issued a long time ago but then it's the case of better late than never.

Cabinet members especially ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentary secretaries - have other more important duties to shoulder than getting themselves involved in sports organisations. Their time should be spent on handling the affairs of their respective ministries and serving the 'rakyat' in their constituencies rather than on matters that do not concern them even though these are at times more appealing and put them in the limelight.

Your decision is therefore timely. But I am rather disappointed to see that some menteris besars think that this directive does not apply to them and are waiting for further instructions. I wonder whether these menteris besars are not smart enough to see the rationale of the banning order.

Pak Lah, now that you have made the above decision, why don't you also consider refraining your cabinet members - including your chief ministers and elected representatives - from holding office in government and state-owned corporations? Many of them are chairpersons of such corporations.

I am shocked to see some menteris besars becoming chairpersons of their own state development corporations as if they have so much time on their hands as CEOs of their own states. Pak Lah, please ban these menteris besars from doing so and let them focus on their jobs as managers of their states. After all, surely the menteri besars can order those running the state-owned corporations to report to them on a monthly basis to see whether these corporations are running properly.

Running a state is no easy matter and demands all the time and attention of a menteri besar So run the state and don't try to multi-task by getting involved in other corporations and bodies.

Perhaps the pay as menteri besar is insufficient that they need to make extra income elsewhere. If this is the case, I am sure no taxpayer will grumble if Pak Lah decides to revise the menteri besar's salaries and allowances accordingly.
