I refer to the malaysiakini report Judiciary needs 'a full stocktaking' . In my honest and humble opinion, former UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers Param Cumaraswamy's suggestion of a 'stocktaking' exercise is not going to do the judiciary any good at all.

Come on, we all know where the rot starts - from the Umno hegemony of our political system. And that hegemony has spread its tentacles to the judicial system, the economic system and anything else that can help Umno stay in power and continue raking in the rakyat's money.

There's really no point in playing the blame game. We can blame Abu Talib Othman and all the others who participated in the decline of the judiciary. We can blame our former prime minister, the infamous Tun. We can even blame the current chief justice. But what's the reality?

The reality is that none of this blaming is going to change a single thing in Malaysia unless there's political will and I don't mean on the part of the politicians.

We all know the rot has gone deep into the current political system, which is dominated by Umno. We all know that we need to change the government. We all know something needs to be done. Yet, most of us are not doing a single thing to help change things in Malaysia.

We keep saying that we can't change a thing. Umno and Barisan Nasional will be in charge 'selamanya'. Well, if we believe that, and don't bother to even register to vote, there's certainly not going to be any change. And if we continue to vote for Barisan Nasional because we are too shortsighted to see where they will lead us to in the next 50 years, then we certainly deserve the government we have.

Before I sign off, here's a quote by Edmund Burke for us to think about: 'All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing'.
