I am bemused to read about Khairy Jamaluddin and gang protesting at the Burma embassy against the military junta's crackdown against the recent peaceful protests.

I wonder if he realises that Malaysia has not ratified the UN convention on refugees. Not only that, unlike Thailand, we don't even offer them some simple form of protection.

I understand the police and even Rela arrest refugees (since they're legally illegal immigrants), even those with UNHCR 'protection' letters.

So was Khairy doing what he did just for "political mileage" (a famous term nowadays in our country), knowing that most Malaysians don't realise we're not even a signatory to the refugee convention?
