I refer to Malaysiakini’s report PM: ISA action is justified .

When the prime minister said that the use of the Internal Security Act on Hindraf leaders was justified, I hope he said that with a clear conscience. When Hindraf planned to hand a memorandum to the Queen through the British High Commission, I believe creating trouble or violence was never on their minds.

All they wanted was to draw the world's attention to their pathetic plight, nothing more. It was the authorities who impressed upon the public that trouble was brewing if the march was permitted. It was thus an excuse to use water canons and tear gas on those poor demonstrators.

It is unfair to claim that Hindraf did not speak up. I hope the PM is aware that many suggestions and ideas from individuals or institutions other than those of the ruling party are scoffed upon as nonsense. Even the ideas of intellects like lawyers were not good enough.

When lawyers suggested that one of them be represented on the royal commission of inquiry into the Lingam tape, it was dismissed without sparing a thought. I believe Hindraf may have aired their grievances but the PM did not hear it although he claims to have big ears.

The many arrests during the demonstration and subsequent charges levelled against them has boggled my tiny brain. The charges against the 31 Hindraf members for attempting to murder a policeman amused me. It would be foolish for 31 people to attempt murdering a helpless soul. If they were bent on killing that poor guy, they would have easily gobbled him up, leaving no traces. Food for thought, prime minister.

The unkindest cut of them all was the alleged link of Hindraf leaders to terrorists . This is very serious. Every citizen would definitely condemn those accused if they sought help from terrorists. No peaceloving person would support them. But making accusations is easy.

Both the accusations of ethic cleansing and marginalisation of Indians was far-fetched. We, the public, would not buy such ideas. These accusations appear not to have valid grounds. If the authorities had allowed them to explain, they might have strong reasons to back up their claims. All Hindraf needed was the big ears of the PM.

By detaining them under ISA, the PM is no better than the Hindraf members. There must be concrete proof to link them with terrorists. The authorities have to show proof that Hindraf obtained funds, arms or have gone abroad for military training. Unless these solid evidences can be furnished, labelling them as terrorists is sinful. As it is, the public does not have the slightest idea of Hindraf's involvement in terrorism. If there is evidence, by all means detain, charge and punish them severely.

Yes, PM, I am sure you have proof to justify your actions. Otherwise, your accusations are as good as Hindraf's claims of ethnic cleansing.
